Opto 22

About Opto 22

Founded in 1974 by engineers who designed a better solid-state relay and chose to build it in a non-corporate, flat organisation. Fast forward 50 years, they are still privately held, lead, and run by engineers.

Opto 22 products are designed to run on non-proprietary communication standards like Ethernet, the Internet Protocol (IP), MQTT, and more. Open standards and commercially available technologies decrease your cost of automation and open up data for use where you need it. As a result, over the years, they have had a hand in promoting industry standards.

Opto 22 Product Portfolio

groov® RIO

Intelligent, multi-signal, multifunction, PoE-powered, remote Ethernet I/O for IIoT and Automation Applications.

Configure up to 8 channels of multi-signal, multifunction I/O (temperature, current, voltage, or discrete), plus 2 mechanical relays. Power the unit and connected I/O with 802.3af PoE Class 0 switches or 10-32 V DC power. Integrate I/O data directly with databases, HMIs, SCADA, cloud services, and IoT platforms with embedded Node-RED connectivity suite.

groov® EPIC System

The world’s first Edge Programmable Industrial Controller.

Collect, process, view, and exchange data where it’s produced – at the edge of the network. Securely share data among databases, cloud services, Allen-Bradley® and Siemens® PLC systems, and other equipment, using tools like Ignition Edge® by Inductive Automation®, Node-RED™, and MQTT. Visualise data on the integral touchscreen, an external HDMI monitor, or from any web browser or mobile devices.

SNAP PAC System

First released in 2007, the SNAP PAC System™ is an integrated system of hardware and software from Opto 22 for industrial control, remote monitoring, and data acquisition applications. Designed to simplify the typically complex process of understanding, selecting, buying, and applying an automation system.

All components work together, no matter what the system’s size. When your system needs to expand, investments in development time and field wiring remain largely intact; you simply add more processors and I/O. If new capabilities are required, additional software and controllers can also be added with minimal time
and expense.

SNAP I/O

Field-proven since 1996, SNAP I/O is suited for discrete control, process control, or almost any industrial control, remote monitoring, or data acquisition application. All SNAP I/O modules are designed, manufactured, and supported in Temecula, California, and tested twice. So reliable, they’re guaranteed for life.

Designed for harsh environments: all are transformer and optically isolated from the field side to the control side. Additionally, an isolated input module or output module offers channel-to-channel isolation, too. Each SNAP analog module contains 2 to 32 channels of I/O—software configurable by channel—so a small number of modules can handle a wide range of inputs.

Solid State Relays

In 1974, Opto22 introduced the first liquid epoxy-filled line of power solid-state relays (SSR). This innovation in SSR design greatly improved the reliability and reduced the cost of manufacturing. At that time, they also incorporated 100% testing under full-load conditions of every relay they  manufactured. As a result, by 1978, Opto22 had gained such a reputation for reliability that they were recognised as the world’s leading manufacturer of SSRs.

Through continuous manufacturing improvements and the same 100% testing policy established over 40 years ago, Opto22 is still recognised today for the very high quality and reliability of all their solid-state relays.
